About Habibi Collective
Tapponi founded Habibi Collective in 2018 as an open-access resource, digitally archived on Instagram. Creating a space for MENA women's filmmaking where there previously was none, Habibi Collective quickly grew into an international community. With a bank of over 500 films from women filmmakers in the MENA region and diaspora, Tapponi screens a range of documentaries, shorts, experimental video, moving-image and narrative features around themes such as climate migration, queer identity and the archive. Habibi Collective is powering the first independent streaming service for MENA cinema, Shasha Movies Ltd.
