"Engaging Muslim Communities to Counter Radicalization - Intercultural Challenges and Dilemmas: A Practitioner's Perspective"
Abdul Hye Miah

Abdul Hye is a Detective Sergeant in the Metropolitan Police Service UK with over 26 years wide operational police experience including Counter Terrorism and Crises and Hostage Negotiation. A Fulbright Police Scholar Recipient he is currently researching his proposal “Talking to Terrorists – A Cultural Model for Hostage Negotiation.” A member of the panel of European Network of Experts on Radicalization (2009-2011) he has instructed on diverse CT courses and presented to Police Services and Counter-Terrorist (CT) Partners in the UK and internationally on Radicalization particularly on Islamic and Muslim Community perspectives. Building on his personal and professional experience Abdul will aim to bring together these strands in this presentation to reflect their implications for Community Engagement in countering radicalization.
The Ridgway Center is part of Pitt’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and the University Center for International Studies.
