Looking back at 24 years of fiction writing, storytelling, and psychodrama work, Elmougy will review intersections among her tracks of work. She has come to realize that everything she does carries with it the spirit of resistance. In her talk, she will explain what she means by “resistance,” and what it is like to be on this journey at this particular moment in Egypt’s history.

Sahar Elmougy is an Egyptian novelist and academic. She has published two short story collections and three novels: The Hill’s Musk, 2017, Noon, 2007 (winner of the 2007 Cavafis Award), and Daria, 1999 (winner of the 1998 Sharjah Girls’ Clubs Prize for Women’s Creative Writing). Elmougy is an assistant professor of English Literature and American Studies in the Department of English Language and Literature at Cairo University. Since 2012, she has been running a creative writing workshop, “Seshat,” named for the Ancient Egyptian goddess of writing. She is also a director of the “Doum Storytelling” theatre group and a psychodrama facilitator.
