World Epics in Puppet Theater: Italy, India, Iran, Japan

A mini-symposium dedicated to World Epics in Puppet Theater: Italy, India, Iran, Japan will take place online through the Museo Internazionale delle Marionette “Antonio Pasqualino” (Palermo) on Friday, November 12, at 4pm local Italian time, and will be available through the Museum’s youtube channel and Facebook page. It will be streamed live and then remain online for a period of time. The theme of this mini-symposium is exile; the five speakers and their paper titles are as follows:

Elizabeth Oyler (University of Pittsburgh), “Shunkan on Devil Island: Domesticating Political Exile in the Puppet Play Heike nōgyo no shima”
Olga M. Davidson (Boston University), “The Shahnameh’s Zal: From Exiled Infant to Star-crossed Lover”
Anna Carocci (Sapienza Università di Roma), “Metamorfosi del tema dell’esilio: l’Oriente magico e l’incontro con l’Altro”
Alessandro Napoli (Marionettistica dei Fratelli Napoli, Catania), “Dolori e trionfi di Rinaldo imperatore nel poema La Trabisonda”
