Secondary 6th-12th Grade Teacher Workshop: Islamic Beginnings and YA Literature

This is a 2-part workshop, based on teacher requests! In part 1, Dr. Scott Lucas, from the University of Arizona's School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies, will discuss early Islam, followed by Q& A with Dr. Lucas and discussion. Teachers can share suggestions or ideas for how to teach this topic in secondary classrooms. In Part 2, Rose Hattab, a PhD candidate in MENAS and an experienced secondary teacher, will share some of her knowledge on young adult literature about Muslim or Middle Eastern teens and their experiences. This will also be followed by Q&A and an opportunity to brainstorm lesson plans together. Teachers who participate will receive certificates for 2.5 Professional Development Hours.
