Diplomacy in the Middle East and North Africa Workshop for K-16 Educators

Hybrid Workshop July 25-29

The thematic focus will be on incorporating knowledge of diplomacy into the curriculum in middle, high school, and community college courses in geography, civics and government, world and US history, including AP courses in these fields. The five days will cover types of diplomacy and their aims and achievements in the MENA region. Examples are cultural, economic, human rights, religious and migration diplomacy, as well as introducing the functions of embassies and consulates abroad for foreign visitors, and on careers in foreign service. Talks will focus on aspects unique to MENA regional diplomacy and its history, including case studies and simulations run by graduate students from the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy’s library of teaching case studies. Attendees will receive print and electronic resources. Summer Teacher Institute 2022 will be held as an in-person and hybrid virtual event on the Georgetown main campus. Attendees must follow Georgetown COVID guidance, which we will circulate to registered attendees. Registration will be limited to 40 in-person attendees, with others welcome to attend virtually. Lunch will be served.
