Works of abstract Arabic calligraphy by calligrapher Hoda Moustapha with be displayed in an exhibition featuring a collection of 30 new drawings all depicting the word "peace." The exhibition will be open on September 13-15, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

After the fiasco of the Iraq War of 2003, the West pushed for a new mandate through the UN called the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) in 2005. This new mandate revived ideas of humanitarian intervention that had been called into question from the detritus of Iraq. No lessons were learned. After R2P came Libya, a society now in ruins, and then came Syria, a country whose civil war had been fanned along even as no good outcome seemed on the horizon. Presented by Dr. Vijay Prashad from Trinity College, this talk will explore the landscape of intervention and its perils.

Join the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh for a discussion on the Iran Nuclear Deal. Leading experts will reflect on the first year following the historic Iran Nuclear Agreement. What progress has the agreement made to date? How strong of an agreement is it? What does the future look like?

Call for Papers: Muslim American Experiences Then and Now
Audience: High School Students enrolled in 11th or 12th grade

Purpose:
1) To encourage original ideas and critical thinking around topics of related to American Muslim history and contemporary experiences.
2) To demonstrate college readiness, research skills, analysis, and presentation skills,
3) To receive authentic feedback from university faculty and to present student research in a university setting.

Join the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh for a conversation on the shifting dynamics within the New Middle East, featuring Shelly Culbertson, Policy Analyst at the RAND Corporation, and author of "The Fires of Spring: A Post-Arab Spring Journey Through the Turbulent New Middle East."

Scholarship exploring the significance of photography in oral history narratives has been increasing in recent years. Building on this scholarship, this panel suggests that photographs add another dimension to narratives. More specifically, photographs provide an opportunity for interviewees to assert their agency through nonverbal expressions and the settings they inhabit.
